Cross-age tutoring: By enjoying a location next to Highvale Secondary College, our school is able to leverage the expertise and facilities at the college. The secondary students help in areas including spelling, reading, PMP, computer skills, maths, art and music. This gives our students a different perspective on their learning and the secondary students benefit by developing their communication skills.
Waverley Links: Highvale is part of the Waverley Links program which involves a group of similarly sized schools in our region that work together on issues of common interest, support each other and share resources. For example, Highvale’s 10 school and house captains participate in a Waverley Links leadership program in which they listen to speakers including sports stars and Members of Parliament and enjoy activities such as public speaking and being tour guides.
Camps: Every second year, children in Years 5 and 6 spend a week on camp; years 3 and 4 go for two nights.
Family Life (sex education) and the Life Education van (anti-drugs) are provided for expert instruction in these important areas.
Highvale students also develop a cross-cultural awareness from being part of a multi-cultural school community. Students participate in extensive studies of Asia in broad-ranging programs which are developed to give children an awareness of the Asia-Pacific region and our role in it.
Additionally, the school offers students the chance to participate in a wide range of other extra curricular activities including: instrumental music lessons, choir, chess, tennis, fencing, board games club, rock school (guitar club) and environmental activities as part of Highvale Sanctuary.
